What was this Case About?

As a result of a court order, payments will be made to families who were eligible for shelter provided by the City of New York from June 16, 1995 through December 31, 2005 and who were not given a timely shelter placement. If you qualify, you could receive $150 for each night that you were not timely provided a shelter placement.

Who Were Class Members in this Case?

You may be entitled to receive a payment if you and your family stayed overnight in the City’s Emergency Assistance Unit (“EAU”). You may also qualify if on two days in a row or more, you were given a placement in a Department of Homeless Services shelter but were required to return to the EAU the following day.

You may also be entitled to receive a payment if:

  • you were not given a placement within 48 hours of applying (from June 16, 1995 through May 5, 1996);

  • your family contained a newborn, pregnant woman, or medically frail member and you were not given a placement within 24 hours of applying (from November 7, 1995 through June 30, 1999); or

  • you were not given a placement within 24 hours of applying (from May 6, 1996 through June 30, 1999).

Can I File a Claim Form?

If you are eligible and if you now receive public assistance, your payment has already been added to your EBT account. This payment will not change your eligibility for benefits or your future monthly benefit amount.

You may download a claim form on this website by clicking on the case documents link. Claim forms must be postmarked by March 21, 2008 in order to qualify for a payment.
